Memunatu Team
Working together to empower
“What if media could do more?” That is what Mariama and Fatmata Kabia asked themselves as undergraduate students, when thinking about girls in their parents’ home country of Sierra Leone. Since then, the sisters have taken Memunatu Magazine from ideation to implementation with the goal of empowering girls across Africa.
Our story
Who is Memunatu?
For us, Memunatu is our mom. She grew up in Sierra Leone, West Africa and was always curious about the world around her. She read stories–from greek mythology to biology. Years, a country, and several experiences later, she has continued to share that love of reading and learning with us.
For you, we hope Memunatu is a platform: for building community, fostering a culture of reading, and improving women’s outcomes. What started as a journey of sisters is becoming an opportunity where stories and information can inspire girls across Africa and beyond.
