Welcome to the Team: Aubrey

Hey! My name is Aubrey Gelpieryn and I’m a Junior at American University studying Political Science and Journalism. On campus, I’m a DJ for the student-run radio station and an active sister of Phi Mu Fraternity. Working in journalism has taken me from Seattle, to Nicaragua, to D.C. and allowed me to explore each environment with a keen eye for potential stories and topics to cover. I’ve created pieces on a variety of topics ranging from gentrification in houseboat communities, to environmental sustainability in the rainforest, to the presidential election this past year. I’m so excited to be an Editorial Intern at Memunatu this semester and can’t wait to learn more about issues occurring in Africa while getting to help support some of the young women there.
