A Day in the Life

I peek outside my door to see if my mother has left. When she does…I TURN MY MUSIC UP TO THE MAXIMUM VOLUME AND DANCE AROUND THE HOUSE IN MY PAJAMAS.  I proceed to get dressed and eat my breakfast before heading outside to catch the school bus. I have a little downtime before the school bus pulls up to my house and I endure the hour-long ride to my school. I usually entertain myself by listening to music on my phone or talking to my friends Markessa and Olajuwon. The conversations we have range from last night’s homework to where fish use the restroom.

I arrive at school every day at 8:00am. There are two buildings at my school an old building and a new building.  I walk down the hallway in the old building, hiding my phone from the choir teacher. “No phone in my hand today,” I say as I walk by him.  He always smiles and tells me to have a great day. As soon as I pass his class I pull my phone back out.  Then I pass by another hall and I speak to my technology teacher. “I am coming to your class today Mrs. Dixon,” I yell down the hallway. “Whatever you say,” she yells back laughing. Then I exit the old building, phone still in hand, and walk towards the new building.  I walk down to the band hall and go in the band room. Today, I stay in the band room for 15 minutes speaking to all the band members that flow in and out before heading to class.

My first block is geometry with my two best friends, Landon and Brandon.  We dance and march around the class (we always pretend we are in parades). This class is from 8:30 to 10:00 but time flies when you are having fun. I enter the hallway to swim through the ocean of students emerging from their classes. As I enter my next class, my teacher shouts, “Do your classwork like good children do.”

Third period transition is my favorite because that is when all the drummers take band class. When I walk out in the hallway, I see Brandon and my brother, Ja’Kavius. We walk down the hall then go our separate ways. I wait on my other best friends Cameron and Kristen before walking up the steps to our next class. I finally make it to class before the 11:50am tardy bell. I breeze through Geography with flying colors as we do vocabulary words and read through the text the teacher gives us. Soon it is 2:00pm and time for another class change. I leave class and find my band brothers. We joke and play in the hallway my last period class of the day, JROTC.

At 3:30pm the dismissal bell rings and we all head to our buses. I don’t go however because I have band practice. Practice lasts five hours and in that time we practice individually, run a lap around the track, march around the football field, and get tired.

My mom usually picks me up at 8:30pm and we discuss my day on the 20-minute ride back to the house. Upon arrival to my house I make a beeline to the shower without even eating dinner. Soon after, I fall into a deep sleep, dreaming of the next day I can walk down the school hallways.
