Considerate Coughing

The most common way diseases and sicknesses (from the annoying common
cold to the severe whooping cough) are spread is through particles in the air –
one of the biggest contributors to these particles being coughs. As many as
3,000 particles can fly out of your mouth in one single cough, sometimes at
rates up to 80 kph! All it takes is one cough to infect someone. That is why it is
important to take special precautions to prevent the spread of these harmful
germs.

In order to stop the spread of germs you can either cover your mouth with a
tissue/cloth or cough into your sleeves. Try to avoid using a bare hand to cover
your coughs, but if you do make sure to wash your hands immediately with
soap and water or use an alcohol based sanitizer. Also, makesure to throw out
used tissues or wash your cloth/hankerchief on a regular basis, especially if you
know you are sick. This may not seem important, but viruses can survive for
hours in open air. Covering your cough is a hygienic and simple way of helping
to reduce contagious illnesses. If you are sick, be considerate of others and
avoid spreading your germs by containing them. Preventing the spread of
sickness is as simple as remembering 3 C’s: Cover, Clean, and Contain.
