Student Ambassador Collaboration: GIWPS

A big part of Memunatu is student leadership.  We’ve designed the student ambassador program to provide girls with leadership opportunities in their schools. As ambassadors, these girls run focus groups with their peers, take notes, and inform what we cover in Memunatu Magazine.

For some girls, this can be a big undertaking. We knew that we would need to provide student ambassadors support to learn and grow during this process. We are so glad to collaborate with the Georgetown Institute for Women Peace and Security (GIWPS) to design learning guides for the student ambassadors! The goal: walk girls through skills that are helpful in the role and beyond (from journaling to interviewing and managing a group). Additionally, articles from the GIWPS team provide global perspective in our issues. Below is more about GIWPS and the awesome fellows we get to work with—Anna and Briana!

GIWPS

The Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security examines and highlights the roles and experiences of women in peace and security worldwide through cutting edge research, timely global convenings and strategic partnerships. The Institute is led by Melanne Verveer, who previously served as the inaugural U.S. Ambassador for Global Women’s Issues. Former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton serves as its honorary founding chair. Located in Washington, D.C., the Institute leverages Georgetown University’s global reach to connect academia and practice, pioneer evidence-based and policy-oriented analysis, and inspire the next generation of leaders.
